Common questions before applying
How long does FSSAI registration or licensing take?
Processing time depends on the application type, completeness of information, authority review, inspection or queries where applicable. Teja does not guarantee an approval date or processing timeline.
Does turnover alone decide Basic, State or Central?
No. The revised turnover thresholds are a useful general guide, but food business activity, capacity and other FSSAI eligibility criteria can affect the applicable category.
Is FSSAI the same as a BBMP or local trade licence?
No. FSSAI registration/licensing and local authority permissions are separate requirements. A food business may need more than one registration depending on its activity and premises.
What changed from 1 April 2026?
FSSAI revised the general turnover thresholds to ₹1.5 crore for Registration, above ₹1.5 crore up to ₹50 crore for State Licence, and above ₹50 crore for Central Licence. The 2026 framework also introduced perpetual validity for registrations and licences issued under the revised framework, subject to ongoing compliance and regulatory action.
What can happen if a business operates without a required FSSAI licence?
Where a licence is legally required, Section 63 of the Food Safety and Standards Act provides for a monetary penalty. Current law should always be checked before relying on a penalty amount; the amended provision provides for a penalty that may extend to ₹10 lakh.
